1. Mugging Whales Premium Coffee Co.
Who doesn’t love coffee? If you are headed to a Thanksgiving dinner party next month, give the host or hostess coffee from Mugging Whales Premium Coffee Co. instead of a bottle of wine. The owners, Heather and Jim hand-select single-origin coffee beans that are as unique as the countries they come from. Gift some exotic beans to your host(ess), and they can travel the world through their cup of coffee!
Heather and Jim ships freshly roasted, whole coffee beans all over Canada. They partner with a local professional roaster who has been selecting and roasting coffee beans for over 25 years! Did you know that roasting the beans unlocks their richest aromas and flavours? I sure didn’t. Plus, Mugging Whales Coffee is known to only offer whole beans because they stay fresher for longer than ground coffee.
What I love about Mugging Whales Coffee, is that your dinner party host or hostess doesn’t have to worry about properly recycling their coffee bags. Most recycling programs in Canada will not accept them due to a thin layer of foil inside the bag and a plastic coating on the outside. To combat this, Mugging Whales Coffee has a recycling program! All they have to do is send in their used coffee bags (from any coffee brand) to Mugging Whales Coffee. They’ll even receive a 10% discount on their next order of $35 or more!
2. Milk & Honey Soapery
Who would ever give soap as a thank you gift? I totally would, especially if they are soaps from Milk & Honey Soapery! The owner and chief soap-maker, Jennifer, only uses nourishing oils like coconut and olive for her soaps, and all the fragrances are from 100% pure essential oils.
What makes Jennifer’s soaps unique is that she names all of them, just like I name my cards! I love how the names reflect the benefits of the soap. For example, the soap above is called Hope, and the Himalayan pink salt in it helps with re-mineralizing your skin!
I also love Milk & Honey Soapery’s commitment to being environmentally friendly. All of Jennifer’s soaps are palm oil-free, and all of her soap is packaged in paper too! Keeping with the eco-friendly theme, I wanted to bring your attention to a fantastic product that Milk & Honey Soapery produces: LIFT. LIFT is a zero-waste, all-natural stain soap made from 100% coconut oil. It replaces the toxic commercial stain removers that can be found in stores.
Help your dinner party host(ess) switch to a more environmentally friendly approach to cleaning their skin by gifting them a soap (or soaps) from Jennifer! To do so, simply go to Milk & Honey’s Etsy shop. If you have questions, feel free to connect with Jennifer on Milk & Honey’s Instagram page!
3. Calligraphy by Yza
Next up is another unusual host/hostess gift: a hand-lettered sign! Klaryza at Calligraphy by Yza has beautiful penmanship that I’m envious of!
She hand-paints and handwrites all of her designs which appear on a variety of different mediums. The most notable being paper, wood and acrylic. I especially love Klaryza’s watercolour and brush calligraphy signs!
This would be an excellent gift for a Thanksgiving dinner party host or hostess that you know a bit more because these signs can get a bit personal. I would totally give one of Klaryza’s “inhale, exhale” pieces to my aunt, but I would not give one to a colleague.
If you’re interested in buying a print, check out Calligraphy by Yza on Etsy, and at the Magpie’s Collection, Handmade Saskatchewan, Kings Castle YXE and Society 6. If you want to gift a custom piece, contact Klaryza on Calligraphy by Yza’s Instagram account!
4. Cocoa40 Inc.
Chocolate has got to be my favourite dessert in the world. It’s a stereotypical gift during Christmas time, but it can also work as a host or hostess gift for Thanksgiving! But, don’t just buy a generic brand from the grocery store. Make your host(ess) feel extra special by purchasing from Cocao40 Inc.
The owner, Stef, makes chocolates, bars and confections by hand without any artificial flavours or preservatives. At Cocao40, they want every bite to be delicious, and each chocolate to be aesthetically pleasing. It’s why every chocolate you buy from them is beautiful, flavourful and made from the best ingredients. All of Cocao40’s flavours are derived from herbs, spices, fruits and nuts that are roasted in-house, and they use French chocolate. Yum!
They also decorate each chocolate by hand with coloured cocoa butter, so every piece is unique- just like their flavours. From bars and truffles to assorted boxes and custom orders, you have many options to choose from when deciding what to give. If your host or hostess is lactose intolerant (like I am), vegan or gluten-free, Cocoa40 has you covered too!
I also love their #Cocolate4Change program where they partner with local charities and non-profit organizations in the Greater Toronto Area. $1 from every chocolate bar and truffle sold from the #Chocolate4Change collection will be donated to those organizations. For more information regarding this program and to place your order, head to Cocoa40’s website. If you want to see what happens behind the scenes, check out their Instagram page!
5. Thoughtfully Handmade
So, you've been invited to a dinner party for Thanksgiving. How exciting! The only problem is that you don’t know the host(ess) that well. You need a gift to say thank you, but what can you give? A handmade card is the answer. It’s thoughtful, and you can write a personal message in it. The host(ess) receives it and is happy that you didn’t just give her a generic gift like a card from the grocery store. That is only one of many scenarios where you need one of my handmade cards.
Alternatively, you can pair it with any of the fantastic gift ideas that I mentioned above. It’s a small gesture that can bring a lot of joy to people’s lives. My handmade cards are unique- all of my designs are entered around pattern paper, and I only produce 6-8 cards for each design. Once they’re gone, they’re gone! Each card is also blank inside so you can write whatever message for your host or hostess. If you’re stuck on what to write, I have a free list of 100+ puns and sentiments to kickstart your creativity!
Similar to the other businesses above, I have also partnered with a non-profit organization, Seniors With Skills, to prevent seniors from being socially isolated. Ten cents from every card, bookmark and gift tag that you buy from me will be donated to them!
I hope these gift ideas help you with your gift-giving! I know how hard it can be to give a unique and thoughtful gift to everyone. However, with my gift guide series, I wish to help with that. Just a friendly reminder that if you are ordering these items online, please do so soon so that they arrive in time for your dinner parties! This is Yandy signing off…
