You’ve been loving these gift guides and I love sharing other Canadian small businesses, so here is another one!
This time, it’s a compilation of 5 different birthday gift ideas for anyone that has a masculine aesthetic. Featuring Go Wood, Basket by Baskets Case, Rural Creative, Oh Ya Leather and my handmade birthday cards, this is a blog post you don’t want to miss!
Everyone needs sunglasses that are comfortable but doesn’t break the bank. That’s why Go Wood exists. They offer a wide variety of lightweight, eco-friendly sunglasses made from wood! All of their products are made of bamboo, recycled wood or wood that’s planted for production. How cool is that?!?
From aviator to wayfarer, Go Wood has an expansive style selection for you to choose from to gift. All of their sunglasses are polarized so your gift recipient’s eyes will be protected.
Go Wood also supports Tree Canada. Tree Canada runs a tree replanting program in rural and urban areas. If you want to see their entire collection, head to Go Wood’s Instagram page. To buy these wooden sunglasses for the birthday celebrant, head to their website!
2. Gift Baskets
Sometimes, you want to get someone more than one thing. The easiest way to do that hassle-free is to order a gift basket from Baskets By Basket Case! Not only do they use high-quality products in their baskets, but they also use products that the recipient will actually use.
Baskets By Basket Case also do their best to source items from Canadian makers. You can actually find some of my handmade thank you cards in their baskets! Every gift basket will receive special finishing touches to make it stand out.
3. Home Décor
Rural Creative’s wooden signs reflect their passion for local love. All of their designs are Canadian and locally focused. Every item Rural Creative creates has a story that’s meant to bring its customers joy and fit their homes. All of their signs are hand-painted, including the typography and geography. No stencils are used!
I love how Rural Creative creates upcycled products made from local, reclaimed wood. They cut the pallets apart by hand, then hand sanding and assembling each piece to maintain the wood’s unique character.
From the research and design to the creation and execution, Rural Creative ensures each sign is a true work of art. I’m sure any birthday celebrant with a masculine aesthetic would love to have one of Rural Creative’s pieces in their home. To find out more about their design process, go to their Instagram page. Head to Rural Creative’s website to order a sign.
4. Leather Goods
Who doesn’t use a wallet? I’m sure with the everyday wear and tear, the birthday celebrant’s needs to be replaced. Maybe you have a photographer on your hands, and they need a new camera strap. In comes Oh Ya Leather to save the day!
All of Oh Ya Leather’s leather goods are made from the heart and by the hands of the owner, Meya. She creates a pattern design and selects top-notch materials. She even hand-dyes and stitches each piece!
5. Handmade Birthday Cards
Last but certainly not least is a handmade card made by yours truly from Thoughtfully Handmade! I have a variety of cards with a masculine aesthetic to match the birthday celebrant. Each card is put together by hand, by me. At Thoughtfully Handmade, 10 cents from each card that you buy goes to Seniors With Skills, a non-profit organization dedicated to helping seniors escape social isolation. I try to source all of my materials locally and use eco-friendly packaging for my cards.
A handmade card can be the gift, but it also pairs well with everything else on this list! All of my cards are blank inside. That way, you can write any message that you want in the card, and the recipient will be able to read it over and over again! I like to use my cards to write a motivating message or funny pun for the birthday celebrant, and then pairing it with a gift that I know they will love.
To start gifting thoughtfully, head over to by Celebration of Birth birthday card collection, and buy a handmade card. You can also check out my Instagram page for behind the scenes content and shop updates, including sales!
If you have another birthday coming up, may I suggest my 5 Things to Give: Feminine Birthday blog post? There are some amazing items made by Canadian artisans, and I feature some of my feminine birthday cards!
I want to quickly explain why I didn't put "birthday boy" in the title. Wood, leather products and specific colours should not be exclusive to one gender and not the other. All genders should be able to enjoy what is stereotypically manly or masculine. Even categorizing these products as masculine made me pause. However, I needed some type of organization, so this is what I came up with.
