1. Boho accessories
If you know someone who loves accessorizing, In a Mood by Christine is the shop for you! Christine is making life beautiful one piece at a time by creating hair scrunchies, boho kimonos, infinity scarves and fringed ponchos. They are all inexpensive accessories that upgrade an outfit instantly!
Like the majority of shops featured today, In a Mood is run by Christine herself. Sometimes, her daughters jump in and help. However, it’s usually Christine who chooses the material and sews each piece. What I love about In a Mood is that Christine uses second-hand fabric for her creations- helping us reduce waste!
2. Handmade pottery
Who knows someone that loves cute home decor? If you want to gift pottery this holiday season, check out Dana from Silverbrook Ceramics! She is a small batch potter from Toronto who makes planters, bud vases, candle holders and tableware.
Handmade pottery has been a passion of hers for as long as she can remember. Handmade pieces are always so unique, and each one tells a story. Dana’s ceramics are no different! Each piece is made by hand using speckled clay. Dana will pair a coloured glaze with each of her creations after firing it in the kiln. Sometimes, she will use carving to add details to her work, which is something I’ve never seen in pottery before!
If you want a custom creation, just contact Dana, and let her know! She’s even made a tea set for her daughter before, so if you want one for your kids, Silverbrook Ceramics is the place to go. To purchase, head to Silverbrook Ceramic’s website. Don’t forget to check out Dana’s Instagram page as well!
3. Geometric coasters
For those with a more modern aesthetic, head to Justindeed Design Co.! The owner, Justin, loves using colourful geometric designs in his work. His goal is to produce unique items that he would want in his home. From wall art and greeting cards to coasters and clothing, the man does it all!
Although, I am going to focus on his coasters because I think they make for a fantastic Christmas gift! It’s something functional but decorative- the best of both worlds. Each set includes four 4x4-inch coasters with a matte finish on wood fibreboard with cork backing. They are designed in Vancouver by Justin and handmade in the UK. All of Justin’s coasters have a waterproof surface and can hold both hot and cold beverages.
As for his art prints, they are 8x10-inch pieces printed on 80 lb matte vellum card stock, of which 30% is recycled material. Each print is designed, printed and assembled in Vancouver and framed in either an 8x10-inch or 8x8-inch frame. To give Justin’s work to someone special this year, head to Justindeed Design Co.’s website. Check out his Instagram for some cool behind the scenes posts too!
4. Blingly bracelets
Sparkly bracelets anyone? If your gift recipient loves to jazz up their outfit with some bling, then you need to check out Kim at Crave Leather. Her wrap bracelets are all made with genuine leather, semi-precious stones and crystals.
Kim handmakes each one to have a unique look and style that you can’t find anywhere else. What I find the most inspiring about Kim is that she started Crave Leather while at home recovering from cancer! Most of her bracelets are single or double wrap bracelets that pair well with a watch or other jewelry.
Since Kim is a breast cancer survivor, she supports women everywhere who are also fighting with her “Survivor” bracelets. She offers free delivery on all of her items in her Etsy shop too! Head over there if you want to gift some bling, or contact her via Instagram if you want a custom bracelet.
5. Christmas cards
I started Thoughtfully Handmade with a mission to help others give joy. Handmade cards are a fantastic way to spread gratitude and positivity! Handmade Christmas cards are an excellent option for colleagues, acquaintances and secret Santas. It’s personal enough that they feel like you put time and effort into picking their gift, but you don’t need to panic about finding a perfect one!
All cards at Thoughtfully Handmade are handmade by Yandy (that's me!) and blank inside so you can write a personal, thoughtful message. Alternatively, you can pair it with any of the fantastic gift ideas that I mentioned above. It’s a small gesture that can bring a lot of joy to people’s lives. My handmade cards are unique- all of my designs are entered around pattern paper, and I only produce 6-8 cards for each design. Once they’re gone, they’re gone!
By purchasing a card from me, you're also donating ten cents to Seniors With Skills! This December, I’m having a sale: buy any 5 Christmas or thank you cards and get a Christmas or thank you card of your choice for free. Don't hesitate and click the images to buy. Also, visit my Instagram page for updates and behind the scenes content!
Now, Christmas is the season of giving, but the best gift can be time spent with family and friends. Don't get caught up in finding THE perfect gift. As long as the gift came from you, they will love it. Especially if it's one of the items from this gift guide! 😉
